This was brewed on 1/21/09. It was recipe off the Mr Beer website. It was also Bonesaw's first cider.
Recipe
1 Mr Beer Cider
1 Pale UME
1/2 Cup Honey
1 oz Argentine Cascade Hops
Munton's Yeast
Brought water to a boil and added honey. Removed from the heat and added the UME, Cider, and hops. Yeast was hydrated via instructions on packet. 1/3 cup water boiled, let cool to around 100F, added yeast, and let sit for 15 mins. Stir and added to keg.
Bottled this on 2/08/09. Trub bottle was cracked on 2/23/09. It was dominated by the hop flavor, and very much a beery cider. After a few weeks of conditioning the hops are mellowing out. It is a nice change up from a sweeter Woodchuck style cider.
*notes* Used a beer yeast instead of a cider yeast due to temperature control problems. Cider yeast would probably create a sweeter, less beery cider. At the same time this recipe is more than likely not going to be sweet in the first place. Would be interesting to recreate with a force carb setup and back-sweeten.
